The Plaza was built in 1967 as a city – centre hotel with the vision to become a point of reference for the town of Rhodes. It has always operated 12 months a year and has provided accommodation not only for holiday but also for business travellers and special events.
In 1970, Aristotle Onasis inaugurated the new Olympic Airways offices on the recently expanded ground floor of the hotel. Onasis was just one of the numerous VIP guests who have stayed in the Plaza since it first opened: famous politicians, artists, writers, businessmen have always preferred it for its central location, the amenities and the quality of services.
The hotel undergoes a major renovation every five years to keep up with the latest developments in services, technology and environmental policies. Today it is one of the few city hotels that stay open all – year – round and remains a favourite with business travellers, holiday makers, providers of congress and incentives services and international festival organisers (e.g. Ecofilms).
